Serving Our Community in East Dallas
At the Churches of Forest Meadow, we believe God has placed our churches in the heart of one of the most diverse mission fields in North Texas. The communities surrounding our church are filled with people from many nations, languages, cultures, and economic backgrounds. This diversity creates both tremendous opportunities and significant challenges. As followers of Jesus Christ, we believe the church is called to love our neighbors, serve practical needs, share the Gospel, and make disciples among all peoples.
A Diverse and Growing Community
Our church serves a growing and global community. Locally, we serve the people living in Lake Highlands, Vickery Meadow, White Rock, and surrounding East Dallas neighborhoods. Together our communities reflect a remarkable mixture of:

- ethnic diversity
- economic diversity
- immigrant communities
- long-time residents
- apartment communities
- single-family neighborhoods
- senior adults
- young families
- refugees
- professionals
- working-class households
Vickery Meadow
Among these communities, Vickery Meadow stands out as one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods not only in Dallas, but in the entire United States. The neighborhood is often called “The Little United Nations” because of the large number of immigrants and refugees who live there. More than 30 languages—and by some estimates over 50 languages—are spoken within the community. Residents come from regions including:
- Latin America
- Africa
- the Middle East
- South Asia
- Southeast Asia
- Myanmar (Burma)
- Afghanistan
- the Congo
- Sudan
- Ethiopia
- and many other nations.

Vickery Meadow is also one of the most densely populated areas in Dallas and contains a large concentration of apartment communities. Many refugee and immigrant families are drawn to the area because of affordable housing and access to transportation and social services.
At the same time, many families in the area face significant economic challenges. Community studies have documented concentrated poverty, housing struggles, educational barriers, language barriers, and social isolation among portions of the population.
Yet this community is also filled with resilience, cultural richness, entrepreneurial energy, family strength, and tremendous spiritual openness. We believe God loves the peoples of East Dallas and has uniquely positioned churches to serve as places of hope, healing, friendship, and transformation.
Ministries Our Church Is Already Pursuing
Hunger Ministry
Food insecurity continues to affect many families throughout East Dallas. Rising housing costs, inflation, transportation challenges, and unstable employment place many households under financial strain.
Our church seeks to respond through:
- food distribution
- benevolence assistance
- partnerships with local ministries
- seasonal outreach events
- emergency assistance
- community meals
- compassionate care for struggling families
We believe caring for hungry people reflects the compassion of Jesus Christ and opens doors for prayer, encouragement, and discipleship.

Key Scriptures:
- Matthew 25:35
- Isaiah 58:6–10
- James 2:14–17
Apartment Ministry
Much of the 75231 and 75243 communities consist of apartment complexes filled with families from many ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
Apartment ministry allows the church to go directly into the community rather than waiting for people to come to us. This ministry may include:

- children’s Bible clubs
- prayer ministry
- evangelism
- tutoring
- ESL support
- family assistance
- sports outreach
- discipleship groups
- community events
- leadership development
Apartment ministry reflects the missionary pattern of the New Testament by bringing the Gospel directly into neighborhoods where people live.
Senior Adult Ministry
East Dallas includes many senior adults who face:
- loneliness
- declining health
- transportation needs
- grief
- isolation
- financial pressure
Our church desires to honor older adults by providing:
- fellowship
- visitation
- prayer support
- practical assistance
- encouragement
- worship opportunities
- discipleship
- intergenerational relationships
Senior adults remain valuable members of the Body of Christ with wisdom, experience, and spiritual gifts that continue to bless the church and community.
Key Scriptures:
- Psalm 92:12–14
- Titus 2:1–5
Immigrant Ministry
One of the greatest ministry opportunities in Dallas is ministry among immigrants and refugees.
God has brought the nations to our city.
Many newcomers face challenges involving:
- language
- transportation
- employment
- education
- healthcare
- legal systems
- housing
- cultural adjustment
- and spiritual questions
- friendship
- hospitality
- ESL classes
- cultural support
- mentoring
- practical assistance
- advocacy
- prayer
- and Gospel-centered community.

Our multicultural church family already includes people from numerous ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. We believe the Gospel is for all peoples (panta ta ethne) and that the church should reflect the unity of God’s Kingdom across cultural boundaries.
Key Scriptures:
- Matthew 28:19–20
- Revelation 7:9
- Ephesians 2:11–22
Community Playground Ministry
Safe community spaces matter deeply for children and families.
Playgrounds and recreational spaces can become places of:
- relationship building

- children’s ministry
- prayer
- and community connection.
Simple acts such as:
- sponsoring community events
- hosting family activities
- offering water and refreshments
- organizing games
- building relationships with parents
- and providing safe environments for children
can open meaningful doors for ministry and discipleship.
